Rubber Track FAQ

Everything you need to know about ordering, fitment, installation, and warranty for your rubber tracks.

Track Fitment & Compatibility

How do I know which rubber track fits my machine?

Every rubber track is defined by three measurements: Width x Pitch x Links (e.g., 450x86x56). You can find this information:

  • Stamped on your existing track's sidewall
  • In your machine's operator manual
  • Using our Track Finder by selecting your equipment make and model

If you're unsure, call us at (850) 816-7898 with your machine's make, model, and serial number—we'll confirm the exact track you need.

What is a guide type and why does it matter?

The guide type refers to the shape and position of the internal guide lugs that keep your track aligned on the undercarriage. Common types include:

  • N-Type: No center guide (smooth bottom)
  • W-Type: Wide center guide
  • B-Type: Dual offset guides (staggered)
  • T-Type: Triple guide system
  • K-Type: Narrow center guide

Important: Guide types are not interchangeable. Installing the wrong guide type will cause the track to derail or damage your undercarriage. If you're unsure of your guide type, send us a photo of your current track's underside and we'll identify it for you.

Can I switch tread patterns on my machine?

Yes! As long as the track size (Width x Pitch x Links) and guide type match your machine, you can swap between tread patterns freely. Many contractors run:

  • C-Block for summer construction and demolition
  • Zig-Zag for winter snow removal and muddy conditions
  • Multi-Bar for landscaping and turf-sensitive work

Check out our Tread Pattern Guide to find the best match for your application.

Do your tracks fit OEM machines?

Installation & Maintenance

Can I install rubber tracks myself?

Yes. Most operators can install rubber tracks in 30–60 minutes per track with basic tools. The general process is:

  1. Release track tension completely
  2. Slide the old track off the rear idler
  3. Position the new track over the sprocket and rollers
  4. Slide the track onto the rear idler
  5. Re-tension to manufacturer specifications

We recommend having a second person to help guide the track during installation. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, most equipment dealers or mobile mechanics can install tracks on-site.

What tools do I need to change tracks?

For most machines, you'll need:

  • Grease gun (to release and reset track tension)
  • Socket set or wrenches (for tensioner access)
  • Pry bar (to help guide the track)
  • Safety gloves and eyewear

Some machines have hydraulic tensioners that release automatically. Check your operator's manual for model-specific instructions.

How do I know when my tracks need replacing?

Replace your rubber tracks when you notice:

  • Worn lugs: Tread depth less than 1/4" remaining
  • Cracks or dry rot: Visible cracking in the rubber surface
  • Chunking: Missing pieces of rubber from the tread
  • Exposed cords: Steel cords visible through the rubber
  • De-tracking: Track frequently coming off the undercarriage
  • Excessive vibration: Ride quality noticeably degraded

Running worn tracks risks damage to your undercarriage components, which are far more expensive to replace.

How long do rubber tracks last?

Track life depends on your application, terrain, and operating habits. Typical ranges:

  • Light duty (landscaping, grading): 1,500–2,000+ hours
  • Medium duty (general construction): 1,000–1,500 hours
  • Heavy duty (demolition, rock, concrete): 600–1,000 hours

Proper tensioning, avoiding excessive spinning, and matching your tread pattern to your terrain will maximize track life.

How do I maintain proper track tension?

Proper tension is critical for track life and performance. General guidelines:

  • Check tension weekly or every 50 operating hours
  • Tracks should have 1–2 inches of sag at the midpoint between the front idler and rear sprocket
  • Adjust tension when the machine is on level ground
  • Never over-tension—this accelerates wear on all undercarriage components

Refer to your machine's operator manual for model-specific tension specifications.

Warranty & Returns

What is your warranty policy?

All TrackTECH rubber tracks include an 24-month warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. This includes:

  • Steel cord separation or breakage
  • Guide lug detachment
  • Premature rubber delamination
  • Manufacturing defects

Each order includes a warranty certificate documenting your coverage period and claim process.

What is NOT covered under warranty?

The warranty does not cover damage caused by:

  • Improper installation or tensioning
  • Running on worn or damaged undercarriage components
  • Impact damage, cuts, or punctures from debris
  • Chemical exposure or fire
  • Normal wear and tear

De-tracking (the track coming off the machine) is typically caused by improper tensioning or worn undercarriage components and is not considered a manufacturing defect.

How do I file a warranty claim?

To file a warranty claim:

  1. Email support@newrubbertrack.com with your order number
  2. Include photos showing the defect or failure
  3. Describe the issue and your machine's operating conditions

Our team will review your claim within 2 business days and provide next steps. If approved, we'll ship a replacement track at no charge.

What is your return policy?

We offer free returns within 30 days of delivery for unused tracks in their original packaging. To initiate a return:

  1. Contact us at (850) 816-7898 or email support@newrubbertrack.com
  2. We'll provide a return authorization and shipping instructions
  3. Ship the track back (customer pays return shipping for non-defective returns)
  4. Refund processed within 3–5 business days of receiving the return

Tracks that have been installed or show signs of use are not eligible for return unless defective.

Is the warranty transferable?

Yes. TrackTECH warranties remain valid for the full 24-month coverage period regardless of equipment ownership. If you sell your machine, the warranty transfers to the new owner automatically. Keep your warranty certificate with the equipment documentation.

Technical & Product Questions

What's the difference between tread patterns?

Each tread pattern is engineered for specific terrain and applications:

C-Block: Heavy, reinforced lugs for maximum durability on rock, concrete, and demolition sites. Best for abrasive surfaces where impact resistance matters most.

Zig-Zag: Alternating chevron design provides excellent all-around traction. Self-cleaning channels shed mud and debris. The industry standard for skid steers and CTLs.

Multi-Bar: Dense, low-profile tread minimizes ground disturbance. Ideal for landscaping, golf courses, and finished surfaces where turf protection is critical.

Directional: Forward-angled lugs optimized for straight-line traction. Preferred for mini excavators in trenching and precision digging.

Visit our Tread Pattern Guide for detailed comparisons.

Are your tracks made with steel cords or cable?

All TrackTECH rubber tracks use continuous steel cord reinforcement—not overlapping cables or fabric. The steel cords run the full length of the track in a single, unbroken loop.

This "endless" winding process eliminates weak points where traditional jointed cables can separate under load. The result is superior tensile strength, consistent pitch, and significantly longer track life.

What rubber compound do you use?

Our tracks are made from a proprietary blend of 100% virgin natural and synthetic rubber. This compound is specifically formulated for:

  • Cut resistance: Withstands sharp rocks and debris
  • UV stability: Resists sun damage and dry rot
  • Temperature flexibility: Performs in extreme heat and cold
  • Abrasion resistance: Maximizes tread life on hard surfaces

We do not use recycled rubber or fillers that compromise track performance.

Do you sell tracks for mini excavators and skid steers?

Yes. We carry rubber tracks for all compact construction equipment including:

  • Mini Excavators: All sizes from 1-ton to 10-ton class
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTLs): Bobcat, CAT, John Deere, Kubota, etc.
  • Skid Steers: Track conversion kits and replacement tracks
  • Multi-Terrain Loaders: ASV, Terex, and similar
