Step-by-Step Guide

Rubber Track Installation

Follow these steps to safely install your new rubber tracks. Most installations take 30-60 minutes per track with the right tools.

Safety First

Always work on a level surface with the machine turned off and keys removed. Use proper lifting equipment and never work alone. If you're unsure about any step, contact us at (850) 816-7898.

Before You Start

Verify Your Tracks

  • Check track size matches your machine
  • Inspect for shipping damage
  • Confirm tread pattern is correct
  • Count lugs to verify specification

Prep the Machine

  • Park on firm, level ground
  • Lower all attachments to ground
  • Shut off engine, remove key
  • Engage parking brake

Gather Tools

  • Grease gun with fresh grease
  • Socket set / wrenches
  • Pry bar
  • Floor jack or lifting equipment

Inspect Undercarriage

  • Check idler, rollers, sprockets
  • Look for excessive wear
  • Inspect track tensioner
  • Note any needed repairs

Installation Steps

1

Release Track Tension

Locate the track tensioner grease fitting (usually on the inside of the track frame near the front idler). Use your grease gun to release pressure, or locate the tension release valve. The track should loosen noticeably.

2

Lift the Machine

Use a floor jack or the machine's own hydraulics (if equipped with a blade) to lift one side off the ground. Support with jack stands. Never work under an unsupported machine.

3

Remove Old Track

With tension released, slide the old track off the front idler first, then work it off the sprocket. You may need a pry bar to help guide it. Roll the track away from the work area.

4

Inspect & Clean

With the track off, inspect all undercarriage components. Clean debris from sprocket teeth, idler, and rollers. This is a good time to grease all fittings and check for worn parts.

5

Install New Track

Position the new track around the sprocket first, ensuring the drive lugs engage properly. Then wrap it around the idler and rollers. The track should move freely when properly positioned.

6

Tension the Track

Use your grease gun to add grease to the tensioner until proper tension is achieved. Check your machine's manual for exact specs. Generally, you should have 1-2" of sag at the midpoint between idler and sprocket.

7

Lower & Test

Remove jack stands and lower the machine. Start the engine and slowly rotate the tracks forward and backward. Check for proper tracking and listen for unusual sounds. Re-check tension after a few minutes of operation.

Pro Tips

Break-In Period

Run new tracks for 10-15 hours before heavy work. This allows the rubber to seat properly and prevents premature wear.

Check Tension Daily

Improper tension is the #1 cause of premature track failure. Too tight causes excessive wear; too loose allows detracking.

Match Both Sides

If one track is significantly worn, consider replacing both. Mismatched wear can cause tracking issues and uneven machine performance.
