Takeuchi TL Series Rubber Track Sizes & Fitment Guide

Takeuchi practically invented the compact track loader, and the TL series remains a favorite among contractors who want a tough, productive machine. But the TL line spans several frame sizes and a couple of decades of model history — TL8, TL10, TL12, and the older TL130, TL140, TL230, TL240 and beyond — so the tracks are not one-size-fits-all. This guide walks through TL track sizing by frame class, shows you how to confirm your exact size, and covers what to think about before you replace.

This is the practical, tech-desk version: how the sizes work, what to expect, and how to order once and get back to work.

How Takeuchi Track Sizes Are Written

Every rubber track is described by three numbers: width x pitch x links.

  • Width — overall width in millimeters. 320mm is about 13 inches; 450mm is about 18 inches.
  • Pitch — distance between drive lug centers, in millimeters.
  • Links — count of drive lugs around the loop.

All three must match. Width gets you close; link count is what actually wraps your undercarriage right. The size is normally molded into the rubber — start there. For the full method, see the track size chart.

Takeuchi TL Series Track Size Guide

The TL line has run across multiple generations. Newer models use clean designations (TL8, TL10, TL12); older ones used three-digit names (TL130, TL230, TL240, etc.). Below is a general guide by frame class. Takeuchi produced these across many years and configurations, so always confirm against the size molded on your existing track before ordering.

Model (examples) Frame Class Common Track Width Typical Size Range
TL8 / TL130 Small-Mid 320mm (13") 320 x 86 x ~52-53
TL10 / TL230 / TL240 Mid-Large 400-450mm (16-18") 400-450 x 86/100 x ~56
TL12 / TL12V2 Large 450mm (18") 450 x 86/100 x ~56
Older TL126 / TL140 Mid 400mm (16") 400 x 86 x ~52-56

Pitch on some TL models can differ (you may see 86mm or 100mm depending on generation), which is exactly why you cannot order off width alone. Treat the table as a starting point and verify your own track.

Small to Mid-Frame TL Loaders

The smaller TL machines, like the TL8, commonly run a 320mm (13") track. These are nimble, lower-ground-pressure machines popular for landscaping and tighter sites. Track life tends to run well when the undercarriage is maintained.

Mid to Large-Frame TL Loaders

Models like the TL10 step up in size and power, running wider 400mm to 450mm tracks. This is where pitch and link count differences across generations matter most — a TL10 is not the same track as a TL8, and an older TL230 may differ from a newer machine.

Large-Frame TL Loaders

The TL12 and TL12V2 are the big machines in the line, running 450mm (18") tracks to carry their weight and power. These work hard, so tread choice and tension maintenance pay off. Browse our Takeuchi skid steer rubber tracks for fitments across the line.

Why TL Fitment Trips People Up

Two reasons Takeuchi owners order wrong:

  1. Generation overlap. The same model name across years can carry configuration changes. A "TL10 track" from one production run may differ from another.
  2. Pitch variation. Some TL models use a different pitch than others. If you assume 86mm and your machine runs 100mm, the track will not seat right.

The fix for both is the same: verify off the molded size on your machine, not off the model name.

How to Confirm Your Exact Takeuchi Track Size

  1. Read the molded size on your worn track. Look between the lugs or along the edge for a stamp like 450x86x56. Clean the rubber and check both tracks.
  2. Count the drive lugs. No legible stamp? Count the lugs around the inside of the loop for your link count.
  3. Note your exact model, generation, and serial. TL10 vs TL12, V1 vs V2, old three-digit vs new.
  4. Call it in. Send your make, model, year, and a photo of the old track to (850) 816-7898 and we will confirm fitment before you buy.

Replacement Tips for TL Owners

  • Replace in pairs when wear is even so the machine tracks straight and you avoid a second job.
  • Set tension to spec. Too tight burns power and wears the undercarriage; too loose risks de-tracking.
  • Match tread to your ground. Block tread rides smooth and protects surfaces; aggressive tread bites in mud. See the tread pattern guide.
  • Inspect rollers and idlers before installing new tracks.

FAQ

Does a TL8 take the same track as a TL10? No. The TL8 commonly runs a 320mm (13") track, while the TL10 runs wider. They are not interchangeable. Verify each off its molded size.

Why do some Takeuchi tracks have a 100mm pitch? Pitch varies by model and generation in the TL line. That is exactly why you confirm the molded size rather than assuming a standard pitch.

Are old TL230 tracks still available? Replacement tracks for older TL models are commonly available. Confirm the exact size off your worn track and call us to check stock.

Do you carry the whole TL series? Yes — small-frame through large-frame TL loaders, with fast free shipping and a 24-month warranty. Call if you are unsure of your size.
