The CAT 259D3 is one of Caterpillar's most popular mid-size compact track loaders, and getting the right replacement rubber tracks is critical for keeping it running at peak performance. Here's everything you need to know about 259D3 track fitment.
CAT 259D3 Rubber Track Size
The standard rubber track size for the CAT 259D3 is 400x86x53 with a B-guide system. Breaking that down: 400mm (approximately 16 inches) wide, 86mm pitch between links, and 53 links per track. The B-guide pattern uses internal guide lugs to keep the track centered on the undercarriage.
Tread Pattern Options
TrackTECH offers three tread pattern options for the 259D3:
C-Block is the most popular choice for the 259D3. The staggered block pattern handles hard surfaces like asphalt, concrete pads, and compacted gravel without excessive wear. If you run your 259D3 primarily on job sites with improved surfaces, demolition, or general construction, C-Block is the go-to.
Zig-Zag excels in soft ground, mud, and mixed terrain. The interlocking chevron pattern self-cleans better than C-Block, which matters when you're working in wet conditions or clay. Contractors doing land clearing, site prep on undeveloped lots, or working through winter should consider Zig-Zag.
X-Terrain is the heavy-duty option for rocky and abrasive ground. Thicker tread bars and reinforced shoulder lugs resist chunking and tearing on demolition sites or rocky terrain.
Undercarriage Specs
The 259D3 uses a suspended undercarriage design with the following components: drive sprockets (rear-mounted), front idlers, bottom rollers, and top rollers. When replacing tracks, it's a good time to inspect all undercarriage wear components — a worn sprocket or idler can chew through new tracks prematurely.
Operating Weight & Track Life
At approximately 9,200 lbs operating weight, the 259D3 is classified as a mid-size CTL. Most operators get 1,200 to 2,000 hours from a set of quality aftermarket tracks, depending on the terrain and application. Running correct tension is the single biggest factor in track longevity — too tight accelerates wear on sprockets and idlers, too loose invites de-tracking.
