Kubota KX040-4 Rubber Track Size — Fitment & Tread Options

The Kubota KX040-4 is a 4-ton class mini excavator widely used in residential construction, utility installation, and landscaping. Here's the complete track fitment guide.

KX040-4 Track Specifications

The Kubota KX040-4 uses a 300x52.5x86 rubber track with a W-guide. That's 300mm (approximately 12 inches) wide, 52.5mm pitch, and 86 links per track. The W-guide uses a wide internal lug pattern for stability in the undercarriage channel.

Tread Pattern for Mini Excavators

Mini excavators like the KX040-4 use directional tread patterns rather than the symmetrical treads found on CTLs. Directional tracks have angled tread bars that point in the direction of travel, providing forward pulling traction when digging and backfilling. When installing directional tracks, make sure the tread arrows point forward on both sides — installing one backwards is a common mistake that reduces traction significantly.

Track Life on the KX040-4

At roughly 9,500 lbs operating weight, the KX040-4 is light enough that tracks last well with proper care. Expect 1,500 to 2,500 hours from quality aftermarket tracks depending on terrain. The biggest wear factors are working on rocky ground (which causes chunking) and excessive travel on paved roads (which grinds tread flat). If you're moving the machine between job areas on pavement, use a trailer when possible.
