Skid Steer Track FAQ

Are skid steer tracks and compact track loader tracks the same thing?

Many customers use the terms interchangeably, but the important details are the machine make/model, track width, pitch, link count, and undercarriage setup. TrackTECH helps verify the correct replacement track before shipping.

Should I replace both tracks at the same time?

Replacing both tracks together helps maintain even wear, balanced traction, and consistent machine performance. If one side is badly worn, the opposite side is usually close behind.

What is the best tread pattern for skid steer tracks?

C-Block is strong for hard abrasive ground, Zig-Zag is a strong all-around option, X-Terrain is built for demanding traction, and Multi-Bar can help when softer ground or reduced turf disturbance matters.

How do I confirm my skid steer track size?

Look for the size stamped on the inside of your existing rubber track. The format is usually width x pitch x links, such as 400x86x52 or 450x86x58. If the stamp is worn off, send your machine model and a few track photos for help.

Do you carry undercarriage parts too?

Yes. If you are replacing tracks, inspect your sprockets, rollers, and idlers. Worn undercarriage parts can shorten the life of new rubber tracks. Visit Undercarriage Parts or call (850) 816-7898 for help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about rubber track replacement

How do I know what size rubber track I need?
Rubber track size is written width x pitch x links. For example, 320x86x52 means 320 mm wide, 86 mm pitch (spacing between drive lugs), and 52 links around the track. All three must match. The easiest way to find yours is to read it off the side of your current track; if it's worn off, give us your make, model, and serial number.
What's the difference between W-guide and N-guide tracks?
Guide lugs are the raised teeth on the inside of the track that straddle the rollers and keep it centered. W (wide) and N (narrow) refer to the spacing of those lugs and must match your machine's undercarriage — it's a fitment requirement, not a performance choice. Most machines run W-guide. N-guide is required on John Deere, Hitachi, Takeuchi mini excavators, Komatsu PC-series, the Case CX55B, and the Kobelco SK55SR. Not sure? Send us your model and serial number and we'll confirm before you order.
Which tread pattern should I choose?
Match the tread to your main work surface. C-Block: hard, abrasive ground like concrete and demolition, with the smoothest ride. Multi-Bar: mud and soft soil, maximum digging traction. Zig-Zag: the all-around standard for mixed conditions. X-Terrain: the most aggressive, for rock and debris. Z-Max: purpose-built for land clearing, mulching, and land management — cut-resistant with a thick carcass for maximum longevity.
How long do rubber tracks last?
Most rubber tracks last 1,200 to 2,000 hours. Terrain, how the machine is run — counter-rotating and sharp turns wear tracks fast — and proper tension and alignment make the biggest difference. Keep the undercarriage clean and the tracks tensioned to spec and you'll get the most hours out of them.
Are your rubber tracks as good as OEM?
Yes. Our tracks are built to OEM dimensions — same width, pitch, link count, and guide profile as your factory track — using high-tensile continuous steel cord and premium rubber compounds. They fit and perform like OEM at dealer-direct pricing.
Do you offer free shipping and a warranty?
Yes to both. Free shipping on every order with no minimums, and every rubber track is backed by a certified 24-month warranty. Tracks ship dealer-direct and ready to work — we stand behind our product.
