How to decide what actually needs replacement
Do not replace every wear part by calendar. Inspect by condition and use the machine manufacturer's wear/service limits. The most important warning signs are hooked sprocket teeth, leaking or seized rollers, idler play, damaged flanges, a tensioner that will not hold adjustment and repeated track alignment problems.
What the old track tells you
- Torn drive lugs: inspect sprocket engagement, pitch/guide fitment and tension.
- One-sided guide wear: inspect idler/roller alignment and frame contact.
- Flat or polished belt sections: check for seized rollers.
- Repeated de-tracking: inspect tension, idler play, guides and frame alignment.
- Accelerated cracking after replacement: check over-tension, debris and worn drive components.
