CAT 289D Track Size Guide: 400mm vs 450mm Fitment

CAT 289D Track Size Guide: 400mm vs 450mm Fitment

The CAT 289D is a multi-width application in TrackTECH's current governed fitment catalog. It should not be published as a one-size machine or automatically treated as identical to every 279/289 D-series model.

Current CAT 289D Governed Fitments

Size Status
400x86B56 Merchant-confirmed, release-ready; exact-size confirmation required
450x86B56 Merchant-confirmed, release-ready; exact-size confirmation required

Both rows use 86 mm pitch, 56 links, and the governed B-guide family. Width is the variable.

Can You Switch Widths?

Do not assume a width change is appropriate simply because both dimensions appear in the governed catalog. Confirm the currently installed track and the machine configuration before changing between 400 mm and 450 mm.

289D vs 289D3

The 289D3 has a merchant-confirmed 450x86B56 primary fitment. The 289D has confirmed 400 mm and 450 mm rows that both require exact-size confirmation. That difference is why TrackTECH keeps model-level fitment records rather than copying a family chart.

Tread and Maintenance

After size confirmation, choose from the tread patterns actually offered for that width. Inspect sprockets, rollers, idlers, alignment, and tension components before installation, and follow the CAT service specification for tension and wear limits.

Use the Rubber Track Finder if the molded track size is unreadable or you are considering a width change.
