Pitch is the center-to-center distance between consecutive internal drive lugs on a rubber track. It is the middle number in a common track size such as 450x86x58.
Why pitch matters
The sprocket is designed to engage a particular drive-lug spacing and geometry. A track can have the right width and a similar overall length but still be wrong if the pitch does not match the drive system.

How to measure pitch
Measure center-to-center between adjacent internal drive lugs. When the spacing is difficult to read precisely, measure across several pitches and divide by the number of intervals to reduce measurement error.
Pitch × links is useful—but not a fitment guarantee
Multiplying pitch by link count gives a useful nominal pitch-line length. It can reveal related long-pitch/short-pitch families, but equal calculated length does not prove interchangeability because sprocket engagement and guide geometry still matter.
